Publication Ethics
CogITo Smart Journal is a scientific publication in the field of Computer Science published by the Faculty of Computer Science, Universitas Klabat, a member of CORIS (Cooperation Research Inter University) and IndoCEISS (Indonesian Computer Electronics and Instrumentation Support Society). The journal is issued twice a year, in June and December.
CogITo Smart Journal accepts original and high quality manuscripts in the areas of Computer Science and Informatics, including research articles, literature reviews, and book reviews. Manuscripts may be written in Indonesian or English. The word CogITo derives from a Latin term that means I Think. Therefore, CogITo Smart reflects the idea of I Think Smart.
Publication Ethics Statement
This statement sets out the ethical standards for all parties involved in the publication process of CogITo Smart Journal, including journal managers, editors, reviewers, and authors. These ethical guidelines are based on the Regulation of the Head of the Indonesian Institute of Sciences Number 5 of 2014 concerning Scientific Publication Ethics.
Scientific publication ethics in this journal upholds three fundamental values:
- Neutrality, which ensures the absence of conflicts of interest in the management of publications.
- Fairness, which guarantees appropriate authorship rights for researchers as authors.
- Honesty, which ensures that all publications are free from duplication, fabrication, falsification, and plagiarism (DF2P).
Duties and Responsibilities of Journal Managers
- Determine the journal title, scope, publication frequency, and accreditation requirements when needed.
- Establish the membership of the editorial board.
- Define the relationships between the publisher, editors, reviewers, and other related parties in formal agreements.
- Safeguard confidential information for contributors, including authors, editors, and reviewers.
- Enforce norms and regulations related to intellectual property rights, especially copyright.
- Conduct regular reviews of journal policies and communicate these policies to authors, editors, reviewers, and readers.
- Provide guidelines and codes of conduct for editors and reviewers.
- Ensure regular and timely publication of the journal.
- Secure and manage financial resources that support the sustainability of the journal.
- Build collaborative networks with research institutions and relevant organizations.
- Prepare licenses and other legal documents required for journal operation.
Duties and Responsibilities of Editors
- Balance the needs of readers and authors and strive for continuous improvement in publication quality.
- Implement processes that ensure the quality of manuscripts accepted for publication.
- Promote objective freedom of expression.
- Maintain the integrity of the academic record of authors.
- Issue corrections, clarifications, or apologies when necessary.
- Oversee writing style and format, while the content and statements in manuscripts remain the responsibility of the authors.
- Actively seek feedback from authors, readers, reviewers, and editorial board members to improve the quality of the journal.
- Conduct regular internal evaluations of the journal quality.
- Support author initiatives regarding publication ethics, including the submission of ethical clearance documents where applicable.
- Remain open to new or differing perspectives that may challenge personal views, for the advancement of scientific knowledge.
- Avoid subjective decisions by not defending personal, author, or third party views, and seek solutions that can be justified scientifically.
- Encourage authors to revise their manuscripts until they meet the standards required for publication.
Duties and Responsibilities of Reviewers
- Evaluate manuscripts and submit assessments to the editor as a basis for determining whether a manuscript is suitable for publication.
- Refrain from reviewing manuscripts in which they have direct or indirect involvement.
- Provide constructive suggestions, feedback, and recommendations to improve the quality of manuscripts.
- Maintain the confidentiality of authors by not distributing or sharing comments, suggestions, or recommendations.
- Encourage authors to revise their manuscripts.
- Reevaluate revised manuscripts in accordance with established standards.
- Complete reviews within the agreed time and in line with the journal guidelines and scientific principles, including research methods, authorship validity, and conclusions.
