The lack of knowledge among high school students about their interests and talents causes students to find it difficult to choose college majors. Students tend to only follow college majors that are currently in great demand, even those college majors are based on their parents' choices. The application of computer technology can help students to find out their interests and talents so that students can choose college majors that match their interests and talents. One of the applications of computer technology is by applying an expert system. This research produces an expert system software as a tool to recommend college majors based on student interests and talents by implementing the Case Based Reasoning (CBR) method which is a method for solving problems by finding the value of proximity between old cases and new cases. The attributes used in this study were 56 items of interest and talent characteristics, which were then grouped into 8 types of talent interests. The case base in this study was 8 case bases which were compared with new cases to find the similarity value. The expert system generated from this research is able to detect the interests and talents of students, then after obtaining results regarding interests and talents, then the expert system will recommend majors in college according to the interests and talents of the students.References
